We are using Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. I want to delete the log files from "Mailbox Database.edb" that is using up a lot of space on my hard drive. Could you let me know the process of deleting files or reducing size of "Mailbox Database.edb"?
Navigate cmd/powershell to database folder path, use eseutil with /mk switch (for example: eseutil /mk e00.chk), see what is current checkpoint log (last 4 digits), sort logs by date modified properties in database folder and delete all logs that are older than checkpoint log. Or you can do full backup of database and it will strip off all unnecessary logs.
First method is far less safer because if you loose database you can't replay trans. logs
Other way is to take full backup of Exchange databases...
Only Full backups can be taken. Log truncation will occur only after a successful completion of a full backup of a volume containing an Exchange storage group and database. -----
